Mayor’s declaration

Witness 8

In Baarn, on March 8th 1946, I interrogated Marinus Johannes Gerardus Jacobus van Leeuwen 43 years of age, unemployed, residing at Stationsweg 24 in Baarn, who declared the following:

On June 18th 1942 I was appointed mayor of Naarden. I held this position until April 22nd 1944. I know nothing of the arrest of two Jewish women in 1942. Orders to arrest these women did not come from me. I was also never informed that there were Jewish women in hiding in Naarden. I never gave orders to the police or the SD to arrest anyone. The arrest of these women was never reported to me. I myself never had contact with the SD. I do not even know a single SD official by name. Read, approved and signed
