"I didn’t encounter misfortune because I was born Jewish, but because I was born Dutch".

Rosie came to this conclusion on the basis of her experiences. She begins nevertheless by praising her Dutch compatriots who risked their lives to offer protection to those being persecuted because of their race or faith.

Many more of her Dutch compatriots did the opposite and took part in the persecution. Thanks to their active engagement, the persecution of Dutch men, women and children with a Jewish background was an enormous success.

Our beautiful polders, with their ditches, windmills and church towers, for a guilty landscape.
